Prepare your arrival
Are you going to study at Institut Catholique de Toulouse? Here are some tips to prepare your arrival and enjoy your stay in Toulouse.

VISA
If you have an EEA/EU citizenship, you don’t need a visa.
If you are a non-European citizen, you need a visa to study in France. Citizens from one of the 42 countries subject to the “Études en France” procedure can apply for a long stay visa valid as a residence permit for students (VLS-TS “Étudiant”, Visa long séjour valant titre de séjour) or a student temporary long term visa (VLS-T). For information regarding visas in France, go to: https://www.campusfrance.org/en/student-visa-for-france-login-to-france-visas.
Healthcare
During your stay in France, you will need a health insurance. If you are a citizen from an E.U. country or from Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Lichtenstein or the United Kingdom, you can request a European Health Insurance Card (HEIC) to your national health insurance provider.
Non-European citizens must register to the French general social security system: https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr/#/ (available in English, French and Spanish).
Wherever you come from, we strongly recommend to subscribe a complementary health insurance which includes a civil liability for both your private and student life, a travel insurance, and once you’re in Toulouse an home insurance for your room.
Budget
The cost of living in Toulouse is relatively high, so prepare your budget accordingly. On average, people spend 300€/month for food. Accommodation costs range from 300€ to 700€/month, depending on the kind of housing.
Accommodation
Every student coming by a partner university must fill the “Accommodations application Form” send by us after the official nomination. You will find information and links in our Fact Sheet. If you need help, feel free to contact the International Relations Office.
Opening a French bank account is necessary, if you want to apply to the CAF for a grant of around €100/month to help you pay your rent. Ask us for details.
Public transports
Once you arrive in Toulouse, we recommend to ask for a « Pastel card » at Tisséo for your daily trips in the city. Tisséo is the public transportation network. It includes 2 metro lines, 2 tram lines, 145 bus lines. With a Pastel card, you can buy a monthly or annual subscription for unlimited trips on the whole network. If you are under 26, the monthly subscription costs 15€ and the annual subscription 154.50€. The Pastel card costs 8€.
